The Mineral Information Institute (MII), headquartered in Golden, Colorado, is a national private, not-for-profit organization. MII’s mission is to provide public education with respect to the earth’s mineral and energy resources and the proper development and use of these resources. It develops and distributes earth science curricula and text material for use in grades Kindergarten through 12, with the aim of providing students with a non-biased, balanced view of the development and utilization of the earth's mineral and energy resources.

MII has been successful in getting its materials accepted by state and local public schools throughout the nation and is currently working with more than 28,000 teachers in all 50 states, U.S. territories, and armed forces locations overseas. There are 504 teachers in Arizona currently using MII curriculum materials. In addition to the teachers in direct contact with MII, an additional 4,000 to 6,000 MII mineral information packets are distributed to teachers each year by other organizations involved in their own high school teacher education programs. Further, schools of education from a growing number of colleges and universities throughout North America are now presenting MII materials in their teacher education programs. Last year, nearly 300 colleges and universities were involved. The 5th printing of MII’s textbook, Global Science: Energy, Resources, Environment, by John W. Christensen, will be released in January.
