Ira Beaman Joralemon


1985 Inductee from Mining's Past

Ira Joralemon graduated from Harvard in 1907 with a Mining and Metallurgy degree, began his profession with Calumet and Arizona at Bisbee, and by 1922 was Assistant General Manager.  This period also included mine examinations of the High Andes and Russia, World War I duty with the U.S. Air Service, and being knighted Chevalier Legion of Honor.

Between 1922 and 1972, Joralemon maintained an eminent global practice as Consulting Engineer and Geologist in San Francisco, becoming a Director of Homestake, Copper Range, Bunker Hill, Bralorne, and Chairman, A.E.C. Raw Materials Advisory Committee.

Joralemon authored many technical papers and three popular books on mining, was Honorary Member and Director of A.I.M.E., President of Society of Economic Geologists, Councilor of the Mining and MetallurgicaI Society of America, and member of the American Mining Congress.
