Edward C. Dowling, Jr. President and CEO Compass Minerals 2026 AMERICAN MINING HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE Edward C. Dowling Jr. is President and CEO, Compass Minerals. He joined Compass Minerals in January 2024 as President and CEO. He has served on the company’s board of directors since March 2022. He also serves as chairman of the board of directors for Wesdome Gold Mines. Prior to joining Compass Minerals, Dowling was a corporate director at Teck Resources Limited; chairman of the board of directors at Polyus Gold; chairman of the board of directors at Copper Mountain Mining, chairman of the board of directors, former president and chief executive officer for Alacer Gold; and director at Detour Gold. Dowling has 30+ years of mining experience and leadership roles in numerous national and international companies, and is recognized in the industry for his ability to assemble and motivate teams of people to tackle and deliver challenging projects for creation of long-term value. He has held CEO-level leadership positions for Alacer Gold, De Beers SA, Meridian Gold Inc., and executive level positions at Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. and Cyprus AMAX Minerals Company, and Phelps Dodge Corporation. Additional board service and memberships include: Zinco Do Brasil, Inc.; Victoria Gold Corporation; National Mining Association; Minerals, Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration; Mining and Metallurgical Society of America; University Advisory Board, Colorado School of Mines; National Materials Advisory Board; National Mining Association and Sigma Xi. Dowling is a Distinguished Alumni Fellow at Penn State, 2017. He received the Daniel C. Jackling Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration in 2013. Dowling has also received the Stefanko Distinguished Achievement Award, Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, 2009; Robert H. Richards Award, American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers, 2004; Centennial Fellow Award, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, 1996; Alumni Achievement Award, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, 1995. Additionally, he is a facility-naming donor in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and Veterans Center at Penn State. A former petty officer in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Dowling earned a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering and mineral processing, a Master of Science in mineral processing, and a Doctorate in mineral processing from Pennsylvania State University. |
